David became part of our family when he married my sister Dorothy and we were instantly struck with what a charming and likeable man he was, as well as how very genuinely interested he was in the lives of others. I recall him enjoying in depth conversations with our younger sons over their shared interest in Formula 1 , he often wanted to understand about my job and the current trends in education and we, in return, enjoyed his stories about growing up in Somerset, his school days and his time in South Africa. As a family, we will remember his calm demeanour and his kindness. He was very much somebody who wanted to support others and he established an instant rapport with our adult daughter who has a learning disability . She too, was very sad to hear the news. We regret that circumstances in the last two years have made meeting in person a rarity but have fond memories of staying with him and Dot, welcoming them to our home also and of visits together to London and Dorset etc. He will be mourned by many people and our thoughts go to Dot and his immediate family who will miss him greatly.
